Instagram has announced that it will block bloggers who advertise vapes, tobacco, and weapons in sponsorship posts. The company announced this in its blog.
The owner of the Facebook social network has previously forbidden brands to buy targeted advertising for such products. But companies used a loophole – they bought posts from bloggers who were not subject to the same rules. So advertisers could promote weapons or vapes.
The company also noted that it would establish “special requirements” for advertising alcohol and dietary supplements, but did not specify which ones. Gizmodo suggested that the new rules are related to the fact that on December 18, the British Advertising Standards Board prohibited four e-cigarette companies from advertising their products on Instagram public profiles.
