The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced Pavel Ustinov, a participant in an unauthorized protest rally on August 3 in the center of Moscow, to 3.5 years in prison. The prosecutor asked the court to appoint the activist 6 years in prison. Broadcast of the meeting was conducted by “Mediazone”.
Ustinov was found guilty of part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (“The use of violence dangerous to life or health against a representative of the authorities”). The activist pleaded not guilty, stating that he had not harmed the riot police and had turned out to be by chance at the rally.
According to the investigation, Ustinov “put up active resistance – putting his right hand, used the strength of the body, had an impact on the shoulder joint” of riot police Alexander Lyagin. Reading the verdict, the judge stated that the activist “humiliated the honor and professional dignity of the security official, causing him moral suffering and physical damage.”
