The owner of the TikTok video service, the Chinese company ByteDance, opened an office in Moscow after an audit by Roskomnadzor. This was reported by RBC with reference to a source familiar with the plans of the company.

Photos from the official opening of the office were posted on Instagram. The company is located on the territory of WeWork coworking on Bolshaya Yakimanka street. The representative of Roskomnadzor said that foreign companies are not required to report to the authorities on the opening of offices in Russia.

Experts interviewed by RBC said that the department could not demand the opening of an office, but could ask for it informally because of the large Russian audience. Lawyers believe that this discovery will help the company gain a foothold in the Russian market.

On June 13, Roskomnadzor announced the start of a TikTok inspection. Within a month, the regulator will look for child pornography and other information prohibited in Russia in the application. Two days later, the company announced its readiness to cooperate with the Russian authorities.
