The British research group Forensic Architecture published evidence of the participation of the Russian military in the battles near the Ukrainian city of Ilovaisk in August 2014. This was reported by The Guardian.

The researchers showed satellite images with Russian armed convoys in Ukraine and photos of the T-72B3 tank, which were used only by the Russian military in the summer of 2014.

Evidence was collected at the request of the European Center for the Protection of Human Rights from open sources, including from YouTube videos. They plan to use them when filing lawsuits against the Russian Federation by the Ukrainian military at the ECHR.

Forensic Architecture used machine learning to view 2.5 thousand hours of video to detect frames in them with a high probability of the appearance of the T-72B3 tank.

In August 2014, battles between the Ukrainian military and the separatists took place near Ilovaisk. The then president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Russian military participated in the fighting, Russia denies this.
