The FSB border service of Russia published statistics on the number of foreign citizens arriving in Russia. Since 2019, the border service began to consider the number of people entering for the purpose of work. This was reported on the website of federal statistics.
For the first half of 2019, 15 million foreign citizens arrived in Russia for all the purposes of the trip. For the purpose of work during this period, most people from Uzbekistan arrived – 918 thousand. In second place for this indicator, Tajikistan – 524 thousand, in third Kyrgyzstan – 265 thousand.
Most of the citizens of far abroad came from China – 50 thousand, then go the residents of Germany – 10.8 thousand, Turkey – 10.2 thousand and Italy – 9.5 thousand.
Olga Chudinovskikh, head of the laboratory of population economics at the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University, told RBC that these statistics may not reflect the full picture of migration. The FSB takes into account the fact of entry and exit, so one person can be counted on the list several times.
At the same time, the statistics of the FSB is very different from the data of the Federal State Statistics Service – in 2018, the security forces counted more than 32 million foreign citizens who arrived in Russia, when the Rosstat figure was 4.9 million people.
