Putin agreed with the position of the Security Council on the refusal to transmit 3.4-3.8 GHz to operators for the development of fifth generation communication networks. This was reported by Vedomosti with reference to four sources familiar with the situation.
These frequencies are used by the military, and in the Security Council they believe that they cannot be used simultaneously with the development of 5G networks. The Ministry of Communications reported that this range is key for the development of fifth-generation networks around the world. “Without its use, our 5G lag is inevitable,” the department said.
The general director of NPK “Kryptonite” Vartan Khachaturov said that this range is most popular for fifth generation networks around the world, as in most countries it turned out to be the lowest of the free ranges where it was possible to distinguish wide spectra. Representatives of VimpelCom, MTS and Megafon confirmed that this range is most suitable for 5G deployment.
On March 29, the Ministry of Defense announced that it’s too early for cellular operators to transfer frequencies for 5G that the military uses. April 5, Putin instructed to study the use of these frequencies for fifth-generation networks.
