American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein found dead in a cell in New York Prison. This was reported by BBC reporters with reference to the media. The cause of death is not disclosed.
Epstein was in custody awaiting trial. According to the BBC, he committed suicide. This is due to an earlier suicide attempt. In July, he was taken to a hospital with a neck injury. After discharge, he returned to prison.
On July 6, US authorities detained Epstein on suspicion of human trafficking. According to the New York Times, he was selling teenage girls into sex slavery.
This is not Epstein’s first accusation of sex work. In 2007, the businessman pleaded guilty to paying for the “massage”, which ended in sex. The government found that some girls were 14 years old.
Epstein spent 13 months in prison and paid compensation to the victims. American citizens called the sentence too lenient.
