Prior to this, Atambaev’s supporters repelled two assaults on security forces.
Authorities detained ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev after another attempted assault. It is reported by Interfax. According to TASS, the official himself surrendered to the security forces.
Interfax reports that up to two thousand employees of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Internal Affairs were involved in the operation. The siloviki rammed the gates on a special machine, after which firing began. The assault was led by Interior Minister Kashkar Dzhunshaliev.
According to Sputnik Kyrgyzstan, 52 people were injured during the detention. One security officer died from a bullet wound in the chest.
Attempts by security forces to detain Atambayev began on August 7. He is accused of illegal enrichment, illegal land ownership, corruption and the release of criminal authority. At the end of June, parliament deprived him of immunity. The ex-president ignored the interrogation calls, calling the charges absurd.
