According to Yevgeny Lisovsky, this will help free map services to become independent from commercial recommender platforms.
The head of the maps service Maps.me, Eugene Lisovsky, in partnership with the founder and CEO of OSMAnd offline navigation application Viktor Scherb, launched the Open Place Reviews platform . The service collects user reviews and ratings about places, hotels, museums and other places.
As explained by Lisovsky on Facebook, unlike other recommendation services, Open Place Reviews is an open and decentralized platform. In his opinion, this will help MAPS.ME, OSMAnd and many other OSM-based applications to become independent of reviews from Google Maps, TripAdvisor, Foursquare, Yelp and many other proprietary platforms closed.
Did you know that all these companies make a lot of money on your reviews and do not allow other applications to display your reviews for free? What the hell is our opinion about places being sold to other companies for money?Evgeny LisovskyHead of Maps.me
User data in OpenPlaceReviews will remain free and open. The authors of the project are planning to earn money on additional services. Now the founders invest their own funds in the project.
