Earlier, a scandal about the possible violation of the privacy of users of the application unfolded on the network
Photo editor from Russian developers FaceApp earned a million dollars in 10 days. It is reported by Forbes, citing data from the analytical company App Annie.
For ten days, mobile users have downloaded FaceApp more than 6.5 million times. Most of it was on Android – 4.5 million downloads. On the iPhone, it was downloaded only 2 million times. Thanks to this, FaceApp has taken the lead in the App Store and Play Market app list.
The application and all the filters included are available for free. Users can purchase a premium version to remove ads and a watermark from it. The cost of the expanded version is 290 rubles per month or 1,490 rubles per year. Despite the smaller number of downloads, most of the income came from the owners of the iPhone – 746 thousand dollars. The remaining 254 thousand dollars brought the owners of Android.
July 17 around FaceApp raised hype about the rules of privacy. US citizens noticed that the application does not process photos on the phone, but uploads them to the cloud for editing using a neural network. Since the application was made by Russian developers, many began to suggest that in this way the creators are trying to assemble a gallery of American citizens.
Journalists TechCrunch and Forbes dispelled some of the concerns of users. They reported that FaceApp data is stored on US servers, not Russian ones.
On the evening of July 17, the creators of FaceApp gave a comment to TechCrunch, in which they assured users of the application that they were safe. They said that the application uploads only selected photos to the servers, and most of them are deleted after 48 hours. They also stressed that the application does not need to register, which means that developers cannot identify images with the user’s identity.
On the evening of July 18, the developers added a notification to the application about uploading images to the cloud.
