Apple may include in the list of suppliers of OLED-panels for iPhone screens of Chinese manufacturer BOE Technology. So the American vendor will protect itself from supply disruptions that may occur due to restrictions imposed by Japan on the export of certain types of polymers required for the production of displays for TV and smartphones to South Korea.
According to DigiTimes, export restrictions have already affected the timing of the bending Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone, which requires a special type of flexible film to cover the screen.
It is noted that at present, about 90% of the market for small and medium-sized OLED panels belongs to Samsung. LG Display, in turn, controls up to 95% of the market for OLED screens for televisions.
