Media: Apple abandons Butterfly keyboards. MacBook Air 2019 will get keys with a new mechanism

New laptop keys will be reinforced with fiberglass.

Apple intends to abandon the Butterfly keyboards (the butterfly mechanism – in appearance of the spacers under the keys) in the MacBook. New keyboards should become more reliable and cheaper to manufacture, writes 9to5mac.

Analyst TF International Securities Ming-Chi Kuo (Ming-Chi Kuo), known for accurate predictions about the technology of Apple, said that the company has developed a new design of the keyboard, based on the scissor mechanism. This will ensure durability and increased key travel. These keyboards will appear on the MacBook Air 2019. MacBook Pro will receive a new keyboard with a scissor mechanism no earlier than 2020.

The new keyboard with scissor mechanism is different from everything that was previously used in the MacBook. In order for the keys to last longer, it is assumed that fiberglass will be used in their design.

The Butterfly keyboard first appeared on the MacBook in 2015. During this time, several generations of Butterfly have changed, but users continued to complain abouttheir quality .
