UEFA will not punish Georgian football players for T-shirts with anti-Russian slogans

An organization cannot intervene in internal competitions.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will not punish the players of Georgian clubs for taking part in the domestic championship in T-shirts with anti-Russian slogans. This was reported by Interfax.

The UEFA clarified that they can open an investigation only for incidents that occur in the framework of their competition.

Given that the events mentioned occurred in a domestic competition, any possible disciplinary measure that can be applied falls under the jurisdiction of the relevant bodies of the Georgian Football Federation.

On June 23, players from several Georgian clubs entered the championship matches in T-shirts with anti-Russian slogans. On black T-shirts a map of the country, a national flag and the inscription: “We are from Georgia, and our country is occupied by Russia”.
