AirPods 2 sells worse than expected

AirPods still occupy more than 50% of the wireless headphone market, but the second generation of AirPods did not significantly affect the statistics.

According to Counterpoint Research, the second AirPods sold worse than expected. While sales of the first AirPods, on the contrary, have grown.

Apple’s market share remained at the same level as in the last quarter [2018], and could not increase despite the launch of the second-generation AirPods. Although sales of the first-generation AirPods were higher than expected, due to various promotions. In the first quarter of 2019, sales of the new model were lower than originally expected, due to the ambiguous reaction of the market.

New AirPods came out on March 20, right at the end of the first quarter. Therefore, it is not surprising that they did not affect the market situation.

Nevertheless, there is a considerable part of buyers who prefer to buy the first AirPods at a reduced price, since the new version of the headphones did not receive major changes. [PhoneArena ]
