The death toll in the explosions in Sri Lanka rose to 290 people

The death toll in a series of explosions that occurred in Sri Lanka on April 21 increased to 290, according to the Hindustan Times , News 1st and Reuters , citing a police statement.

The police said that 500 people were injured. A spokesman for the ministry, Ruvan Gunasekara, said that in the case of the explosions, security forces detained 24 people.

April 21 in Sri Lanka, eight explosions thundered : six early in the morning at almost the same time, two more in a few hours. Three explosions occurred in hotels in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, three more – in the Catholic churches of Colombo and suburbs, the seventh – in the west of the island, the eighth – in a residential complex in the suburbs of the capital. None of the extremist groups have thus far claimed responsibility for the bombings.
