Representatives of the Paris firefighters said that they had managed to save the main structures of Notre Dame Cathedral from destruction. Prior to this, the French authorities doubted that the stone part of the famous building would survive after the fire.

The commander of the fire brigade stressed that the two rectangular towers that form the look of the cathedral are likely to be saved. A few hours after the start of the fire, eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread to one of the towers. Firefighters also reported rescuing the west wing.

Also, the media reported that during the fire fighting one of the 400 firefighters on the spot was seriously injured.
