Vladimir Putin instructed the Security Council to work out the issue of using for 5G frequencies in the range of 3.4-3.8 GHz, which are used by the military. This was announced at the State Commission for Radio Frequencies by the Deputy Minister of Digital Development Oleg Ivanov, the Vedomosti newspaper reports .
Ivanov hopes that a discussion of this issue in the Security Council will expedite the solution of the problem and will allow “to find a solution acceptable to both the security forces and the communications industry.” Vedomosti reports that Putin intervened after the request of Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov, who said that “due to the shortage of frequencies in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band, 5G networks can earn much later than planned – 5G already launched in America, in Asia. “
At the end of March, the Ministry of Defense prepared a review of the draft concept for the development and creation of fifth-generation networks in Russia, which stated that it was too early for cellular operators to transmit frequencies for 5G (range 3.4-3.8 GHz) – they were occupied with military equipment.
