Yesterday, Apple introduced the Powerbeats Pro headphones , which by their capabilities are very similar to the second-generation AirPods . But they are more focused on athletes, rather than everyday use.
Headphones have a lot in common, but they have noticeable differences that are worth paying attention to.
AirPods: have a unique design. They have no additional mechanism for holding in the ear, so not all AirPods’ ears sit securely.
Powerbeats Pro: have recognizable zaushny handles and additional nozzles that allow them to firmly hold in their ears.
Powerbeats Pro is designed to stay in your ears at any load. Apple tested more than 20 configurations before settling on a design that suits most people.
Both Powerbeats Pro and AirPods come in cases with charging support. The AirPods case is smaller, so it’s easier to carry in your pocket.
Powerbeats Pro: come in four sizes with rubber inserts that are designed to fit snugly in the ear to isolate ambient noise.
AirPods: do not have similar attachments, so it’s easier to hear what is going on around them.
Apple claims that sound was the focus when developing Powerbeats Pro. At the same time, the sound directly depends on which nozzle is used.
In the case of AirPods, the company simply states that they have “high quality music sound.”
For a more detailed comparison of the sound, you have to wait until Powerbeats Pro goes on sale, and this will happen only in May.
AirPods: no buttons. All actions are performed using tapas and voices. The AirPods case has a single physical button for pairing headphones with devices.
Powerbeats Pro: There are three physical buttons. They are responsible for adjusting the volume, switching tracks and rejecting calls.
AirPods and Powerbeats Pro are turned on when removed from the case and turned off when placed back.
Powerbeats Pro is resistant to moisture and sweat, but Apple does not name a specific IP rating. Probably, with headphones you can not be in the shower and swim in the pool.
On the AirPods page there is no mention of moisture protection at all.
Siri processor, sensors and support
The second generation AirPods and Powerbeats Pro use the same H1 chip. With it, headphones are quickly connected to all devices on iOS, macOS and watchOS.
Also thanks to the H1 chip, the owners of Powerbeats Pro and AirPods 2 can activate Siri using the phrase “Hi, Siri”.
Powerbeats Pro has all of the same sensors and features as AirPods, including ear detection for automatically turning on and off music.
AirPods: have special accelerometers for speech recognition and radial microphones that filter out background noise during a call.
Powerbeats Pro: also have accelerometers for speech recognition. But each microphone has two microphones, not one, like the AirPods.
Powerbeats Pro work 9 hours when playing music. This is four hours more than the AirPods. In both cases, the battery life can be extended up to 24 hours, if you put the headphones in the charging case.
AirPods: can be charged via Lightning or using wireless charging.
Powerbeats Pro: do not support wireless charging – they need to be charged only with a Lightning cable.
Powerbeats Pro has Fast Fuel technology, which charges the headphones for 4.5 hours of music playback in 15 minutes. AirPods have a similar function, but due to the smaller battery, a 15-minute charge will last for 3.5 hours of work.
Colors and prices
Powerbeats Pro: boasts four colors: dark blue, dark olive, black and “Ivory.” However, regardless of the color of the headphones, the Powerbeats Pro case will be black.
Powerbeats Pro will be sold in Russia for 18,990 rubles.
AirPods: are sold only in white and cost 16 990 rubles for the version with wireless charging. AirPods without wireless charging cost 13,490 rubles.
AirPods are more suitable for everyday use, and Powerbeats Pro are designed for sports.
AirPods are smaller and easier to carry around. They are also more convenient to charge due to the presence of wireless charging.
At the same time, Powerbeats Pro work longer, they are protected from sweat and moisture, they have four colors and additional fixation on the ear.
