“Daughter” S7 received a license for space activities in Russia

The C7 Space Transport Systems company, which is part of the S7 holding, received a license in Russia to conduct space activities, including using the Baikonur cosmodrome

Zenith missile system,

As told in the company, the obtained license gives the company the right to participate in international cooperation in the field of research and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

The license allows the company to engage in analytical integration of work (control) to ensure launches of spacecraft from the Baikonur cosmodrome using the Zenit space rocket complex.from the message of the company “C7 Space Transport Systems”

The company noted that participation in the first ground start is planned for 2017. February 13, 2017 in the design bureau Yuzhnoye (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) confirmed that they are preparing to launch the Angolan satellite with the help of the Zenit-3 SLBF carrier together with Russia and S7 Corporation.

In September 2016, C7 became the operator of the international project Sea Launch, in which Zenit launch vehicles should launch payloads into near-earth orbit.

To do this, S7 Group acquired from the RSC Energia a floating launch site Sea Launch. Starting in 2014, rocket launches from this platform were suspended, and the holding said that launches would not be resumed until 2018.

The acquisition of the cosmodrome is the “entrance ticket” for us to the space industry. Space infrastructure is developing very rapidly, this is a very interesting line of business, which has good long-term prospects.

We expect that without large investments in the modernization of Sea Launch (trademark of the Sea Launch program) we will be able to make up to 70 launches within 15 years.

Our approach to doing business is fundamentally different from many companies – we will not sell promises, we will sell launches only on ready-made launch vehicles. First rocket, and only then – the buyer.Vladislav Filev, CEO of the S7 Group after the acquisition of the floating space center

One of the main risks of the project after the purchase of the platform was thequestion of the acquisition of Zenith missiles. These carriers are collected by Ukraine, which in 2014 stopped supplying them to Russia.

The head of the S7 then stated that the company as a commercial structure has the money to buy these missiles, if Ukraine agrees to sell. At the same time, it was unofficially stated that there are several more missiles in the Sea Launch warehouses, ready for launch. In addition, it was announced plans to develop its own rocket forces of Russia.

Space platform Sea Launch

As the representatives of Roskosmos said in 2016, “for the first time in Russia a private investor has appeared of such a level that can really become a long-term partner of the state in the space sphere and participate in systemic space reform”.

However, some analysts then doubted that the acquisition of the Sea Launch could be beneficial for a private company, because it did not bring profit since the project was created in 1999.

Other experts considered that if a private rocket was created, the company could easily earn money by launching American satellites or communications satellites of private companies. The creation of the Russian rocket was estimated at $ 1 billion.

Then, in September 2016, the media reported that the S7 has plans to build its own cosmodrome in orbit. The company did not comment on this information.

Commercial companies are already successfully delivering satellites and payload to space. One of the most famous is SpaceX Elon Musk, which ships ships to the International Space Station. In 2016, the American company Virgin Galactic billionaire Richard Branson received another license for commercial use of outer space .
