Owners of services gave a month.

For the first time, Roskomnadzor demanded from owners of 10 large VPN services to connect to the registry of prohibited FGIS sites. Otherwise, the agency threatened to block services.

What services were required to connect to the registry

  • NordVPN;
  • Hide My Ass !;
  • Hola VPN;
  • Openvpn;
  • VyprVPN;
  • ExpressVPN;
  • TorGuard;
  • IPVanish;
  • Kaspersky Secure Connection;
  • VPN Unlimited.

According to Roskomnadzor, according to the law “On Information”, services should restrict access to sites prohibited in Russia. According to the rules, they have 30 days to connect to the registry from the moment they send requests.

The office required VPN services to connect to FGIS after the application of the “federal executive body that carries out operational investigative activities or security.” Most likely, speech about FSB or the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In November 2017, the Law “On Information” entered into force in Russia , which, inter alia, prohibits the use of VPN services to bypass blockages. Until 2019, Roskomnadzor did not use this law.
