On the Tigris River in Iraq, the ferry sank, reports Reuters. According to the agency, at least 40 people died. At the time of this writing, at least 12 people were saved.
Updated at 18:40: The death toll at the ferry crash increased to 71 people, the country’s Interior Ministry reported.
According to Al-Jazeera, on board the ferry were 200 people who celebrated Navruz. Presumably, the cause of the crash was the overload of the vessel.
