He was fired in July 2018 because of old tweets.
The director of the first two parts of the film “Guardians of the Galaxy” James Gann was reinstated as the director of the third part. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline , and Brother Gunn posted a screenshot of the news in his Instagram.
The editor of The Hollywood Reporter, Boris Keith (Borys Kit), clarified that in the fall, Gann would shoot “Suicide Squad 2” for Warner Bros., and then immediately begin shooting for “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”.
According to the publications, Disney tried several times to find a replacement for Gann. But about two months ago, the company decided to once again sign a “secret” contract with the director and announce the return at the right moment.
About an hour after the news Gann confirmed his return. On Twitter, he thanked Disney for the decision and all the people who supported him in recent months.
Gann was fired at the end of July 2018 because of old tweets about pedophilia and rape. The decision to dismiss was approved by Disney CEO Alan Horn and company president Bob Iger.
Then Gann called a tweet about pedophilia taken out of context, and also apologized for his behavior. The director removed a lot of tweets from his account and stopped writing anything on social networks. The director was supported by representatives of the film industry, including the actors of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
