The device will cost 3.5 thousand dollars and is intended for use at work, not at home.
At the MWC 2019 show in Barcelona, Microsoft introduced the second version of HoloLens mixed reality glasses. The company claims to have made management “intuitive”, more than doubled the field of view, and increased comfort during long hours of work.
We are entering a new era of computer technology, in which the digital world transcends 2D screens and enters a 3D world. This new era will allow us to achieve more, go beyond the boundaries of the usual and work more quickly and efficiently in 3D.
As noted at Microsoft, users of the first HoloLens helmet asked the company to improve three main areas of the device. They wanted the headset more immersion, comfort and “accelerate payback.”
The company claims to have listened to customers. To improve immersion, Microsoft fully updateddisplay systemheadsets. In HoloLens 2, the viewing angles were more than doubled, while the company remained the leader in “holographic density”, which was 47 pixels per degree of view.
According to Microsoft, the new display system HoloLens 2 has improved performance while reducing power consumption. The company also changed the interaction with holograms: now it is the responsibility of a separate sensor for the depth of “flight time” with integrated artificial intelligence and “semantic understanding”.
According to Microsoft, HoloLens 2 allows you to interact with virtual objects in the same way as with objects in the real world – using “instinctive” gestures. The headset also contains new eye movement sensors that make holograms more natural. In addition, the device has a built-in iris sensor, which allows you to quickly pass authorization to Windows Hello without entering data.
The company also improved comfortdevices, balancing the center of gravity with carbon fiber materials and improving the mechanism for donning the device without the need for reconfiguration. HoloLens 2 has improved thermoregulation with steam chamber technology.
In addition, in the new headset, Microsoft engineers have taken into account a variety of shapes and sizes of human heads. To do this, change the design so that it can be easily adjusted to each person.
The company claims that the device can be “comfortable to wear for hours” and it is not necessary to take off the glasses – the headset will adjust itself for them. If you need to get out of the “mixed reality”, then it is enough to raise the “visor” of the headset up and switch to interacting only with physical objects. According to Microsoft, innovations “more than tripled” improved the comfort and ergonomics of HoloLens.
To improve payback timeMicrosoft launched the ecosystem for HoloLens. The headset supports integration in mixed reality with applications such as Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, Dynamics 365 Layout and the new Dynamics 365 Guides. Applications for the ecosystem can also be developed by the company’s partners, expanding the use of the device in various fields.
Sales HoloLens 2 will start in 2019 at a price of 3.5 thousand dollars (about 228 thousand rubles). Together with the device, Microsoft offered a subscription to Dynamics 365 Remote Assist for $ 125 a month. The headset will be officially available only in the USA, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Australia and New Zealand.
