On the eve of the head of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotyk announced a record for the company in the past 2018. However, the publisher and game developer decided to optimize business processes, since the achievements were lower than expected. Earlier it was reported that about 100 people would fall under the dismissal, but the official figure was higher – 8% of Activision Blizzard employees (approximately 770 people) would remain without work.
“While our financial results for the year 2018 were the best in history, we did not realize the available potential, ” said Kotik. The company intends to focus on large franchises, which include Call of Duty, Candy Crush, Overwatch, Warcraft, Hearthstone and Diablo. The number of developers involved in projects for these series will be increased by 20% during 2019.
In order to “feed up” areas of interest to the company, Activision Blizzard will take resources from projects that have not met expectations, reducing the costs of non-development activities, as well as the administrative segment.
At the end of 2018, Activision Blizzard’s net revenue was $ 7.5 billion, the last quarter of last year brought $ 2.38 billion.
