File manager from Windows 3.0 has become available in Microsoft Store

Hi from the 1990s for all the nostalgic for the first versions of Windows.

The File Manager program first appeared in Windows 3.0 and was designed to make it easier for Windows users to manage files (copying, moving, deleting, searching, etc.) until it was replaced in Windows 95 with the familiar Windows Explorer .

In April 2018 , one of the former Microsoft employees, Craig Wittenberg, published the source code of the program on Github , which he copied from Windows NT 4 back in 2007. Wittenberg significantly expanded the functionality of the program and ported to all current Windows releases: by this he wanted to clearly emphasize the backward compatibility of Windows applications. Any interested user has the opportunity to compile the program for use in Windows 10.

In January 2019, Microsoft made it even easier to launch the old File Manager by publishing it to the Microsoft Store as a universal application. The application pagestates that the program can be launched on several platforms at once – on a PC, mobile Windows, Surface Hub and HoloLens, however, Windows 10 with build version 16299 and higher is required for operation.
