Kuindzhi from the Tretyakov Gallery suspected of embezzling a painting was detained in less than a day

A criminal case was initiated against him.

Police detained the suspect in the theft of the picture of Arkhip Kuindzhi “Ai-Petri. Crimea, ”the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported . A 31-year-old man was caught in the village of Zarechie, Moscow Region.

At the time of the arrest, the suspect was under house arrest in another case. In December 2018, he was detained for drug possession and opened a case against him under article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case against a man for “theft of items of special value” according to 164 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The police began to identify the potential accomplices of the crime.

On January 27, a man in front of eyewitnesses approached the film “Ai-Petri. Crimea ”in the Tretyakov Gallery, took it off the wall, took it out of the frame and disappeared. Visitors to the museum took him for an employee who changes the picture. The guards were called only after he disappeared.
