On January 27, a military parade was held on Palace Square in St. Petersburg to mark the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. This holiday is celebrated annually. Its name was established by law, signed by Vladimir Putin on December 1, 2014.
January 27, 1944 Leningrad was completely liberated from the Nazi invaders. By the end of the blockade in the city there were no more than 800 thousand inhabitants of the 3 million who lived in Leningrad and the suburbs before it began. According to various sources, as a result of the blockade in the city, from 641 thousand to 1 million inhabitants died.
