Balega added that Patriarch Kirill supports science not only in the humanitarian sphere, but also in technical sciences, and “religion, to some extent, is part of human culture.” As noted by RBC, the title of “honorary professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences” is awarded by the Presidium of the Academy to outstanding figures of world culture, scientists, government and public figures who have made a significant contribution to the development of science, as well as to ensuring mutual understanding and cooperation between nations.
On January 18, the RAS press service announced that Patriarch Kirill had become an honorary professor of the Academy of Sciences. On the same day, the academy stated that the award ceremony was postponed to January 22.
