Spanish Catholics insulted “too merry” statue of Satan

In the city of Segovia, a scandal erupted around the statue of Satan, which the city administration planned to build in order to attract tourists. The devil is associated with the legend of the construction of a local aqueduct.

According to legend , the aqueduct was erected not by the Romans, but by the devil himself, to whom a local girl sold his soul. She was tired to go up to the water high in the mountain and asked the devil to build water supply as soon as possible.

As conceived by the sculptor, the Devil smiles and holds a phone in his hand, taking a selfie at him. The idea was that people were more photographed next to a fun sculpture.

Locals have created a petition on Change.org for the devil not standing next to the aqueduct. And their main claim is that his image is too friendly.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]This sculpture insults Catholics because it embodies the devil. In the holy books, the image of the devil is conveyed in such a way that it has the right psychological effect on people. His features of appearance repel, they are not friendly and not seductive, like this sculpture. Praise the Lord that a religion glorifying the devil is not so common. Her ideas should not cause laughter, they should push away most people.[/perfectpullquote]
