The Investigation Committee of St. Petersburg began pre-investigation checks on a complaint against the painting “The Movement of Beauty” (“Movimento di Belezza”) by local artist Mila Arbuzova. The picture resembles the work of Botticelli “The Birth of Venus”, but it depicts a completely naked woman who blows a dressed boy with a hairdryer.

The painting “The Birth of Venus” depicts a feminist Sasha Chernousova, explained the artist in Facebook.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]This is a joke painting, also affecting the feminist agenda – women’s reproductive work, beauty standards, body-positive. I quote the picture description: “The picture is a remake of the famous“ The Birth of Venus ”. […] A child with a hairdryer turned on was also not originally planned in the picture, but he fit in perfectly, capturing with the wind deities present in Botticelli’s work.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]They were called in for questioning by the Investigation Committee of the Frunzensky District and showed screenshots of the film “Movimento di Belezza”, as well as photos from the master class, in which I participated as a student. This is a very strange moment, they were attracted by a photograph, where two images of a child (my son) with a small kitten lay before me.[/perfectpullquote] [perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]They interpreted it in such a way that I conduct regular classes where I force people to draw children’s pictures. The Investigation Committee, as I understood it, began to try to bring the case to the seduction of minors and link the facts, that I have erotic pictures, pictures with naked clothes and what I taught.[/perfectpullquote]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Investigators explained to Sereda that the unknown complained about Arbuzova’s creative activities. He was also dissatisfied with “Nafaney” – the artist allegedly showed “depraved” pictures to children. However, the “Beauty Movement” never appeared in the center, the publication noted. Sereda added that the photos for which the complaint was made were made in a different interior, and not in her club. Arbuzova also stated that she did not show nude pictures to minors.[/perfectpullquote]
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]In the club and in general, where I teach, I never show any of my works to children. Naked, we never draw at all, there was nothing like that to complain about. This is an important topic, because in general there are very strange claims to naked painting. The situation is in Arab countries. It is not right.[/perfectpullquote]
