The explanation was published by the representatives of the company themselves. It says that the car (Toyota Prius, on which Yandex.Taxi usually tests its unmanned technology) was purchased in the USA and equipped for a month, including the adaptation of UAV software for roads in Nevada and the collection and configuration of cartographic data.

During the demonstration races, no one was driving a car (as required by the laws of Russia and most other US states) – an engineer at Yandex was sitting on the right side of the passenger seat.

Nevada is one of the few states in the United States where unmanned vehicles are allowed. At the end of 2018, Yandex obtained a license to use such vehicles on public roads.
