Samsung “selectively” raised prices for smartphones in Russia due to the increase in VAT

From January 1, 2019, Samsung “selectively changed” prices in an online store for some models of smartphones due to the increase in VAT in Russia, the company’s press service told Kommersant. What kind of devices in question is not yet known.

The flagship of the Galaxy Note 9, which cost from 69990 rubles for a model with 128 GB, went up in price in the company’s online store by more than 2% – up to 71490 rubles, noted journalists. The same value increased in online stores of MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, M.Video and Svyaznoy.

“M.Video” and “Eldorado” stated that they did not revise the retail prices for appliances, but recognized that some models of smartphones could have risen by several percent. Some of them, retailers, allegedly even reduced prices.

On January 1, in Russia, the VAT rate increased from 18% to 20%. Since then, the price of Apple products on the official website has grown by an average of 2-3 thousand rubles.
