The VKontakte social network team named a list of topics and personalities that users most often spoke about in public posts and comments from January to December 2018.
The top ten most discussed people were headed by Vladimir Putin – his name was mentioned 9 million times a year. Habib Nurmagomedov took the second place in the top – for comparison, it was mentioned only 3.9 million times. Also in the top ten are football players Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, musicians Basta, Yegor Creed, Eljey and Miyagi, politicians Donald Trump and Pavel Grudinin.
In the top ten most popular events, the World Cup was leading (2.8 million mentions). The top 10 also includes the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, retirement age discussions, a fire in the Winter Cherry Trade Center in Kemerovo, Telegram blocking, the Champions League, UFC fights, the release of the film Avengers: War of Infinity, the presidential election and the game Fortnite.
