Uber launched a separate application for Russia a year after the deal with Yandex.Taxi

The old application will gradually stop working in the country – it can only be used abroad.

Uber launched a separate application in Russia called Uber Russia, similar to Yandex.Taxi. The original application will gradually turn off for the Russians. About this told the press service of the integrated company Yandex.Taxi and Uber.

Uber Russia is available on the App Store and Google Play since December 21. As representatives of the company explained, from January 2019, the main Uber application will only work abroad.

In honor of the release of Uber Russia, users can get personal discounts of up to 80% – it’s enough to specify the end point of the trip. In 2019, the company intends to invest in the service more than two billion rubles, taking into account discounts and promotion for drivers.

In a conversation with the press service of the combined company said that Uber Russia was launched “for the development of the Uber brand in Russia”. Together with the new application, the style of service will change, for example, pasting cars will turn yellow.

Unlike the main version, the application uses vector maps. In Yandex, they explained that due to this, the application will “work better in the conditions of a slow Internet and will take up three times less space”.

Uber Russia also has features that are not found in the main Uber. Among them, a comment to the order, the ability to add intermediate addresses and leave a tip to the driver.

When authorizing in Uber Russia, users are offered to transfer data from a regular Uber – just enter the phone number associated with the service. Travel history, favorite addresses, linked cards and email are synchronized automatically.

Uber confirmed to Vedomosti that the release of the new application is associated with the merger of the Russian business of the company and Yandex.Taxi. The deal was concluded in July 2017. By its terms, Uber received 36.6% in the combined company, and Yandex – 59.3%.
