London Gatwick Airport stopped the arrivals and departures of aircraft due to two drones flying over the airfield. It is reported by the BBC.

According to the newspaper, on Thursday, December 20, the airport should have been used by 110 thousand people on 760 flights. The representative of the airport confirmed the same information to The Guardian.

On Twitter, the airport apologized for the delays and warned passengers not to go to the airport without checking flight status.

According to The Guardian correspondent Damien Gale, the planes will not start flying from the airport until at least 11 am local time.

Aviation Minister Elizabeth Sugg stated that the drones flew illegally, and their operators, who acted “incredibly irresponsible,” face up to five years in prison. At the same time, the Sussex police stated that there was no indication that the flight of drones was linked to terrorism.

Due to the delay, one of the railway companies offered passengers with air tickets from London to Edinburgh free travel on this route.
