Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko resigned as president of the Russian Football Union. Sergey Pryadkin, the head of the Russian Football Premier League, will hold the post of acting chairman of the RFU conference. This was announced by theofficial twitter of the organization.
In December 2017, the media predicted Mutko’s resignation in connection with the FIFA “pressure” about the “doping crisis”. However, the vice-premier suspended his activity in office only for half a year . FIFA then stated that the decision was made by Mutko “in the interests of the World Cup”, since he also the leadership of the organizing committee of the 2018 World Cup.
The “doping crisis” is a disqualification of the Russian Olympic Committee and the performance of the Russian team at the 2018 Olympics under the neutral flag in connection with the doping scandal. Mutko and his deputy lifted for life from being present at any Olympics.
