The problem is most acute in Brazil, India, Chile, South Africa and Mexico.
According to the new report of Truecaller, the call identification service, in 2018 out of all 74.1 billion calls received by users of the application, 17.7 billion were spam calls. Telecommunication companies turned out to be the worst malicious spammers.
In Russia, the number of spam calls has increased in comparison with 2017 (by 32.8%) – the user Truecaller receives an average of 8.9 spam calls per month.
Most of all, in 2018, the problem affected Brazil, in which the average Truecaller user receives 37.5 spam calls per month, and Costa Rica showed the highest increase in spam – 330%. A significant increase in the number of spam calls occurred in some European (Spain, Greece, Poland) and Latin American (Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Dominican Republic) countries, and only the United States and Turkey showed a significant decrease .
In 2017, India ranked first in the number of spam calls, and Truecaller users often remembered this.

Data for the report, according to Truecaller, was collected anonymously from incoming calls that were marked as spam either automatically by the application or by the user for the period from January 1 to October 30, 2018.
