Three days ago, rumors appeared on the network that Microsoft wanted to abandon the EdgeHTML engine in the Edge browser and switch to Google’s use of Chromium. Today, this rumor was confirmed in the company’s official blog.
Microsoft motivates abandoning its own design with improved compatibility and less fragmentation for developers. In addition, the new engine will transfer the Edge to other platforms (for example, macOS). Accordingly, no one refuses from the browser itself or its name.
Preliminary assembly of the browser on the new engine will be released in early 2019. The timing of the appearance of the final version for the mass user is not reported.
