Soyuz MS-11 launched for the first time after the fall accident of the launch vehicle

Roscosmos launched a Soyuz-FG launch vehicle with the Soyuz MS-11 spacecraft. The launch took place at the Baikonur cosmodrome. The approximate time of the docking of the ship with the orbital station is today at 20:35 Minsk time.

On board are three people: Russian Oleg Kononenko, American Ann McClain and Canadian David Saint-Jacques.

The most experienced of the current crew – Kononenko, for him this is the fourth flight. McClain and Saint-Jacques were not in space before.

Flight Broadcast:

This is the first flight of the “Union” since the accident at the launch of a similar ship on October 11 of this year. Shortly after the breakdown, an abnormal situation occurred: the second stage engines were disconnected, which led to the activation of the emergency system. The rescue capsule with Alexey Ovchinin (Russia) and Tyler Haig (USA) landed in Kazakhstan. The accident was the first for the Russian manned space flight for 35 years.

About a year later, by the end of 2019, Roscosmos plans to abandon the Soyuz-FG rocket in favor of the more modern Soyuz-2.1a.
