Apple and Amazon have agreed to use Apple Music on Echo columns

This is the second strategic partnership for the two giants in November. Earlier, Amazon agreed to sell Apple devices directly on their websites.

Starting December 17, users of smart speakers at Amazon Echo will be able to use Apple Music. The corresponding service integration can be enabled in the Alexa Voice Assistant application. And then it is enough to contact the assistant and ask to start any track in Apple Music. With the advent of Apple Music, Amazon Echo becomes a real streaming aggregator. The company’s smart speakers already support Spotify, iHeartRadio and Pandora.

Customers can ask Alexa to include their favorite songs, artists and albums, as well as any of the playlists made by Apple Music editors from around the world. Users will be able to ask Alexa to broadcast editorial stations focused on popular genres, for example, Hip-Hop, 80s or K-Pop.

Apple will sell about 3.5 million HomePods this year, compared to 28.5 million Echos and 16.2 million Google Home Speakers, so integration with Amazon is the best solution for increasing the number of subscribers to streaming services. Now Apple Music has a user base of 50 million subscribers. The service is a key component of Apple’s plan to expand its revenue from digital services and compensates for the slowdown in iPhone sales growth.

This is not the first time that Apple uses other hardware manufacturers to increase attention to Apple Music. During the launch of the service in 2015 was released for Android. Apple did not disclose exact data on the number of subscriptions on the Android platform, but the application was downloaded more than 10 million times. Apple also offers Sonos speaker integration for its music service.

Two strategic partnerships with Amazon this month did not give a significant impetus to raising the company’s market capitalization. Apple shares last month took a trend to reduce the cost and amid a new agreement between Apple and Amazon, trading closed in the next minus (-0.54%).
