The Russian government is considering the option of introducing a mobile application, to which citizens can attach a valid passport.
The initiative was announced at the Russia Calling! Forum by Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov.
According to the politician, the authorities are actively discussing the issue of creating a digital passport. This new form factor for the country can be used as a full-fledged identity document.
We solve the following question: Do you need a stationary version, which you have to constantly carry in your pocket for identification purposes?
Mobility is changing the world very quickly, and I think we should develop several form factors at once.
Maxim Akimov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation
If the government approves this development scenario, the first passports in the form of mobile applications will appear within 9 to 12 months.
Another alternative to a classic passport can be a special card with a photo and a chip. Its size is completely repeated banking. The card will contain information about the owner, as well as his fingerprints. [ Gazette ]
