The Russian government is considering the option of introducing a mobile application, to which citizens can attach a valid passport.
The initiative was announced at the Russia Calling! Forum by Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov.
According to the politician, the authorities are actively discussing the issue of creating a digital passport. This new form factor for the country can be used as a full-fledged identity document.

If the government approves this development scenario, the first passports in the form of mobile applications will appear within 9 to 12 months.
