InSight has successfully landed on Mars

Everything went right on schedule – today at 10:54 pm NASA InSight was successfully on the surface of Mars. This is the first in the last six years, the successful landing of the Earth platform on the Red Planet. InSight, together with two MarCO satellites, was launched on May 5, 2018.

We emphasize that InSight is not a rover, but a static platform built “in the image and likeness” of the Phoenix apparatus. She will not travel across Mars and will spend her entire life at the landing site. On Mars, she will study the geology of the Red Planet. The duration of the mission is two years.

Most recently, we published detailed material on how the device was supposed to land on Mars. Since everything went smoothly, the timing described earlier will give a complete picture of how the flight and landing went.
