In “Beeline” fear of restricting competition.
MegaFon and Rostelecom have begun negotiations on the creation of a single infrastructure operator for the construction of 5G networks in Russia, Kommersant reported, citing three sources in the telecommunications market. The consortium is discussing the possibility of participation of the state corporation “Rostec”.
According to Kommersant, the launch of the operator is scheduled for March 2019. The documents are at the signing stage and will be ready “either at the end of this year, or at the beginning of the next.”
Officially, the companies did not comment on the deal, but earlier the companies stated that they were in favor of developing the 5G standard networks. In November 2017, MegaFon and Rostelecom signed an agreement on the development of networks.
VimpelCom (owns Beeline) suggested that the initiative to create a single operator 5G would “impose a model on the market” and lead to restriction of competition. Tariffs will be set by one player, said Alexander Popovsky, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, VimpelCom.
