Rosselkhoznadzor imposed temporary restrictions on the transit of poultry meat produced in the United States through the territory of the Russian Federation.
This is reported on the site office. We are talking about products intended for Kazakhstan.
These measures come into force on November 20th.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”This decision was made in connection with the threat of entering the Russian market from Kazakhstan of products of unknown origin, as well as products made from raw materials of unknown origin,” the report says.[/perfectpullquote]
According to the Russian side, in October, the transit of seven shipments of poultry meat, which followed to Kazakhstan from the United States (to Russia, in turn, came through the territory of the European Union), was stopped. The reason was violations in the design of certificates, expiration of a part of products, as well as traces of drugs found in the products of Mountaire Farms Incorporated and Equity Group-Kentucky Division.
In this regard, all the parties, weighing 185 tons, were returned to the EU, from which they were imported into Russia.
The Office notes that Kazakhstan, in accordance with international agreements, is obliged to establish a system of control of goods subject to veterinary supervision and transit through the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, and transmit the relevant data to the states through which goods are transported. However, according to the Russian side, the measures taken by Kazakhstan are insufficient. In addition, deliveries from the United States are carried out on veterinary certificates, different from the requirements of the EAEU.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“In this connection, the Rosselkhoznadzor cannot guarantee that products imported as part of transit from the US to Kazakhstan are safe and do not harm consumers, and also, due to the lack of a traceability system in Kazakhstan, they fear that such products may be imported into other countries participants of the EAEU illegally, “- said in a statement.[/perfectpullquote]
Poultry meat from the United States, as noted by RBC , is subject to the food embargo, which Russia imposed in 2014 in response to US sanctions. Previously, there was also a restriction on importation related to bird flu, but it was abolished at the beginning of the year.
Kazakhstan in 2018, according to the data of the Union of Poultry Farmers of the country, increased imports of poultry meat from the United States to 140 thousand tons. Previously, imports amounted to 110 thousand tons, its increase, as noted in the organization, was a condition for the country’s accession to the WTO. Union President Ruslan Sharipov acknowledged that this puts domestic producers at a disadvantage.
Recently, Russia and Kazakhstan have repeatedly imposed restrictions on the importation of products. Thus, in the middle of 2018, Kazakhstan banned theimport of chicken from several Russian companies because of salmonella . Recently, restrictions have been imposed on the products of two more manufacturers, in which they found a violation of the norms related to the content of microorganisms. Russia, in turn, suspended the import of meat and fish products (in particular, sprat) of several Kazakhstani companies. A batch of dairy products transported at insufficiently low temperatures was also returnedto Kazakhstan.
