The Japanese company Orient (owned by Seiko Epson) filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics because of the trademark Galaxy for smart watches Korean manufacturer. Orient registered the Galaxy trademark in 1984 and since then has been producing watches with this name. The Samsung smart watches, in turn, used to be called Gear, and recently the device line was renamed Galaxy Watch.
Orient believes that this is a clear violation of the rights to a trademark and, moreover, is a serious obstacle for the release by the Japanese company of its own smart watches Galaxy. The requirement is to prohibit the sale of Samsung Galaxy Watch.
According to the publication Yonhap News, currently Galaxy Watch belongs to the category of electronic devices, Orient watches – jewelry products. Samsung said they would consider the suit, and then comment on the situation.
