Yandex launched a car-sharing drive with its own onboard system Yandex.Auto

Unlike other services, the “Drive” dynamic price – like a taxi.

On the morning of February 21, a car sharing service Yandex.Drive started work in Moscow , company representatives told. At the start, only 750 Kia Rio (sedan), Kia Rio X-Line (cross-hatchback) and Renault Kaptur (crossover) cars will be available – these cars were leased by Yandex.

The company does not believe that the fleet of 750 cars is small, and they expect to expand it in the future. For comparison: other popular Moscow car-sharing have a total fleet of more than 3 thousand cars, the largest one – at “Delimobil” (about 1500 cars). Kia Rio and Renault Kaptur are presented in many services, X-Line is available in BelkaCar.

There are three main differences from other car sharing at Yandex.Drive. The first is the Yandex.Avto built-in multimedia system : in addition to navigation, it can play music, display weather and other information, but the system does not know how to manage the rental progress.

The second difference is dynamic pricing. The company says that the minimum cost per minute of a trip to Yandex.Drive will be 5 rubles, but the price may increase depending on various factors: for example, the time of day and the demand for cars. Car brand does not affect the cost.

The application has just been launched and it is still unclear how much the price can be higher than the minimum – but the pricing method is very similar to how Yandex creates the cost of traveling by taxi.

[Prices] are calculated using an algorithm that takes into account the traffic situation and the demand for cars. For example, in the morning rent will be cheaper to compensate for a longer road.

In a dynamic tariff, the price per minute is set at the time of the lease and remains until it expires. However, in the “Drive” in the “coming days”, a fixed fare will appear in the test form (not for all users), where the cost of the trip is fully calculated in advance – for this you need to specify the final destination of the trip.

The company believes that this tariff will help to use the service more economically.

We will be able to more effectively manage the fleet, and therefore reduce prices. For example, if we know that a user takes a car and moves to a zone with high demand, then the system will reduce the cost of the trip. In addition, later it will allow to form the so-called “chain of orders” – knowing the point at which the car will be, we will be able to offer it to another user in advance. It will also help us reduce downtime and have a positive effect on prices. If the demand is high, we will warn the user about it, and he will be able to choose: go right now or wait for the price reduction.

The system of two such tariffs differs from the way other car sharing services work – they usually have a fixed price per minute of rent, which may vary depending on the brand of car. For example, in Belkacar, renting a Kia Rio car costs 8 rubles per minute, and Mercedes-Benz CLA costs 16 rubles per minute. 5 rubles per minute – so much the cheapest car-sharing, for example, “Karusel”, which fleet of cars “Lada Grant” take.

The third difference is the coloring of cars. According to the order of the Department of Transport in Moscow in 2015, rental cars through car sharing services should have a typical design (company and Moscow car sharing logos, orange stripes on certain parts of the body), and the main body tone can be anything. However, all the popular Moscow karsherings use dark basic tones – for example, dark blue or dark gray: probably the reason is that karsheringov cars get dirty quickly and rarely wash.

Machines “Yandex.Drive” will be white. One of the readers of  shared a photo of the car, made during the period of internal testing service company.
