Apple will donate a thousand smart watches to research aimed at further exploring the causes of bulimia nervosa. The project intends to find out which biological changes accompany frequent and uncontrollable bouts of overeating, excessive exercise and some other manifestations of eating disorders.
The study will take one month, and smart watches will be used to track the heart rate of the subjects. Doctors plan, in particular, to find out whether Apple devices are capable of effectively receiving this kind of data.
The project will be attended by one thousand volunteers over the age of 18 with diagnoses of “nerve bulimia” and “psychogenic overeating.” Scientific data processing will iOS application.
Subjects will also undergo a medical examination for genetic changes and the presence of various types of bacteria in the body.
