At the end of last week, the Hubble telescope encountered technical difficulties. The device had problems with gyroscopes. Because of this, NASA specialists had to transfer Hubble to safe mode. Now the engineers are thinking about solving the problem, but the telescope cannot function as expected.
Gyroscopes need Hubble for turns to explore different areas of space. It is noteworthy that this problem does not occur for the telescope for the first time: back in 2009, he had problems with the control system.
It is known that for correct operation Hubble uses three gyros. Now only two mechanisms are intact – it is possible that they will be enough.
Hubble has been in orbit since 1990. The telescope is used to detect new stars, exoplanets and other space objects.
