The eternal dilemma confronts a potential buyer of anything. Often the allocated budget grows imperceptibly when you begin to find fault with trifles. Whether it’s buying a car, an apartment, a vacuum cleaner, a TV or a smartphone, “here’s a“ trick ”is, and this one looks better,” and so on. Approximately such sensations can occur when comparing two mobile phones: Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus.
They cost about the same: the difference in Belarus is about 100 rubles, which is not so much, if we consider the devices closer. Externally and to the touch, the devices are different in everything, but inside they are very similar to each other. Which to choose? Let’s try to figure it out.
- Appearance and ergonomics
- Screen and sound
- Battery life and performance
- Camera, photo examples
- Conclusions and assessment
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is a classic modern inexpensive smartphone with a large display and a completely mundane design. Not bad and not good, it is “average”. Nokia 6.1 Plus tries to look like a higher class smartphone – it is smaller, sleeker and beautifully shiny, which makes it more attractive, but less practical.
Dimensions of the devices are noticeably different: 157.9 × 76.4 × 8.2 mm for the model Xiaomi against 147.2 × 71 × 8 mm for Nokia, the weight is 151 and 181 grams respectively. With the thickness, by the way, there is an interesting point related to the design of mobile phones.
Nokia 6.1 Plus – “chocolate bar” with clearly marked edges and without changing the thickness of the case. This device is more compact, and the ends are clearly felt when the smartphone is in the palm of your hand. Reminds early “iPhones”. Redmi Note 6 Pro is massive, but its ends are rounded. In addition, the housing of the apparatus consists of two parts on the principle of a sandwich: the substrate and the screen appear to be separate elements, and the display is shorter and narrower than the chassis. Due to this, the phone seems even thinner than a Nokia smartphone.
The back panel of Redmi Note 6 Pro is made of metal. It is surrounded by a plastic frame – thin on the sides, almost imperceptible and thickened at the top and bottom. For this reason, the back panel looks like a removable cover. The color of the elements is the same, but the texture is different – plastic has more gloss.
Unlike the Xiaomi smartphone, the Nokia device is protected from behind with glass – fingerprints appear quickly on it, which are clearly visible due to the color of the case. The fingerprint scanner and the dual camera and flash unit make the device less impersonal – they are surrounded by thin silver edging. The Nokia logo is located vertically below, and the inscription “Android One” is located closer to the bottom.
Redmi Note 6 Pro has a dark surface with an inconspicuous fingerprint scanner and a dual camera module on the upper left. Barely peeps the Mi logo.
The edges of both smartphones are classically decorated. On the right side there is a power button and volume rocker (with Nokia 6.1 Plus, they also have a silver border), on the left there is a tray for two SIM cards or a SIM card with a memory card. At the top there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a noise canceling microphone. The Xiaomi phone also has an IR blaster, and Nokia has a plastic antenna insert in a metal frame.
At the bottom end of Redmi Note 6 Pro there are two “grills”. Behind one is a conversational microphone (the other openings are sealed), after another – a loudspeaker. Between them there is a microUSB connector. The Nokia 6.1 Plus – two plastic inserts on the sides, providing the work of communication modules, microphone, USB Type-C and dual speaker hole. Not symmetrical, but fully functional.
The screen diagonal of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is 6.26 inches, and the Nokia 6.1 Plus is 5.8 inches (in both cases the IPS matrix is installed). The resolution is identical – 1080 × 2280 pixels, but due to the size of the displays, the pixel density is different: 403 and 432 ppi, respectively. The smaller screen size of the Finn makes the picture more contrast and clear.
Nokia 6.1 Plus’s “monobrow” is about half as much as Redmi Note 6 Pro has a dual front camera.
The maximum brightness of the screens is also no different, but the Chinese smartphone defaults to warm shades by default (in the settings, the range is designated as “natural”), Finnish – to cold ones. Xiaomi phone allows you to “play a little” with the color setting, and as a result, its display can be made to shine brighter. Nokia device is deprived of this opportunity.
It is impossible to determine which display is better – a lot depends on the chosen theme of the design (size of icons, color scale and so on). Higher ppi? Yes, on the screens of smartphones lying next to someone someone sees the difference. Separately – hardly.
The loudspeaker in Redmi Note 6 Pro has a deeper sound with less detail, due to which the low frequencies sound more distinct. Nokia’s speaker against a competitor seems very sharp, it has medium frequencies, larger and higher. In both cases, “watching a movie” – yes, “listening to music” – no.
Monitor headphones are much better “swinging” Redmi Note 6 Pro – for once, it was not desirable to twist the volume to the maximum. Nokia 6.1 Plus showed an average result – the maximum output from the device was not enough for headphones. With the “gags”, I think, there will be parity. As for quality, it largely depends on the source, and records from popular services sound the same.
The battery capacity of the smartphone Xiaomi is 4000 mAh, it charges slowly – for some reason, the manufacturer makes you remember, “as it happened before.” So be ready to “suck in” to the outlet for two and a half hours. The device without problems lasted for two days with regular, but short gaming sessions, chatting in messengers and a small number of calls.
Nokia 6.1 Plus got a smaller battery – 3060 mAh, but with support for fast charging. With the “naked” Android battery works a day and a half. Nevertheless, it is possible to “shake” it without special effort during a working day – it all depends on usage scenarios. Most importantly, there are no unexpected charge leaks.
Smartphones are equipped with identical processors – Snapdragon 636. The same applies to the amount of RAM – 4 GB. As a result, in synthetic tests, devices gain a similar number of points, the influence of third-party factors is minimal.
“Let’s play one game” – make sure that the phones give way to more expensive devices. But no – there are no “brakes”, except that the fps indicator is somewhere expectedly low. However, you can understand this only by comparing the Xiaomi and Nokia devices with smartphones running Snapdragon 845, for example. Without a “reference” at hand, once again it becomes clear that “iron” is developed at a level where its high performance is noticeable only to geeks and by direct comparison. One hope for a camera that will put everything in its place.
Both smartphones have dual front cameras. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro layout is 12 + 5 megapixels, the focus is f / 1.9, the matrix size is 1 / 2.55 ″, the pixel is 1.4 μm, it has phase autofocus. The second camera is “portrait” with f / 2.0, which is needed to create a blurred background effect. Selfie camera – 20 + 2 megapixels.
The camera likes to add colors and warm colors, but there are no complaints about the quality of the photos. Shumodav not very well shows itself in low light conditions, although the details, of course, are smeared. In some cases, the application did not respond to taking several shots in a row – as if the system was “thought out” after recording the previous snapshot. And do not forget to turn off the annoying “watermark” in the camera settings.
he Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone has a 16 + 5 megapixel camera (f / 2.0, 1.0 μm, phase autofocus, the parameters of the additional module are f / 2.4, 1.12 μm). Front – single 16-megapixel.
The camera is better able to photograph in bright light. But they often turn out to be “overwhelmed”, with the increase of the remnants of magic disappear. At the same time, the color reproduction of shots from a Nokia smartphone is “more correct”. From the “chips” – the ability to shoot at the same time on the front and main camera. Someone come in handy.
Conclusions and assessment
Two smartphones with a slight difference in price are not at all like each other in appearance. One is as simple as five kopecks, the other is just some aristocrat. It is obvious that Xiaomi needs to do something with the design, you cannot go far on one Mi Mix. The verdict for Redmi Note 6 Pro is a good device in an obscene package.
Against this background, the Nokia cellphone wins at least externally. The performance of the device as a twin brother, so the choice may be based on preferences in terms of size and screen size, someone would like a more capacious battery, the other is more important design and glass case. As for the camera, it is not necessary to do it once: either one unit breaks forward, then the other. For Instagram and other social networks fit both.
