Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo was removed from the team for the next matches. A football player was supposed to play for the national team against Poland, Italy and Scotland. This happened against the backdrop of a scandal of rape charges against an athlete. This was reported by the Associated Press and Sky News .

33-year-old Ronaldo has already missed two matches against Portugal against Croatia and Italy. He was not exactly summoned to a friendly against Scotland (October 14) and the League of Nations match with Poland (October 11). However, the Portuguese media claim that the Portuguese will also miss the next matches – with the Italians on November 17 and repeated with the Poles on November 20. So he can not play until the end of 2018.

According to Portuguese journalists, the decision to dismiss Ronaldo was taken after resuming an investigation against him in Las Vegas . This was agreed by the president of the Portuguese Football Federation and the head coach of the national team Fernando Santos. The footballer himself allegedly participated in the conversation, who agreed to these conditions in order to focus on the matches for the Italian Juventus.

In late September, an American, through the German edition of Der Spiegel, told how Ronaldo raped her while on holiday in the United States in 2009. Journalists published an agreement between a girl and a football player, according to which he paid her 375 thousand dollars for settling the conflict and silence. The Portuguese denies these charges, and his lawyer intends to file a lawsuit in court for reputational damage.
